Seaweed & Spa Workshop with Foraged by Fern

In the summer of 2020 I had the pleasure of capturing this gorgeous workshop day in Brighton with Fern Freud who runs Foraged by Fern. The Seaweed and Spa workshop is was all about learning how to safely and sustainably forage for a range of seaweeds and sea vegetables, herbs and spices on the beach followed by an afternoon as Beach Box Spa.

We started the day with a welcoming circle, to get to know each other and Fern talked the deligates through the basics of coastal foraging. We then headed off on a guided tour of edible, interesting and nutritious seaweeds and sea veg. We collected what we needed for the afternoon feast before heading on a walk along the seafront to find Beach Box.

Beach Box is home to 3 cosy converted horse trailers, with wood-fired stoves. The Beach site has  incredible sea views, located right on the pebbles with direct beach access, so perfect for a sea dip too.

The sauna experience was enhanced with handmade, natural in-sauna body treatments. Delegates were able to choose from the gorgeous spa menu, including leaf whisks, face masks, body platters, salt scrubs, nourishing hair masks and Aufguss ice balls with aromatherapy oils to sizzle on the rocks.

This particular workshop was during a heatwave with temperatures well into the 30 degrees, so it was amazingly refreshing to be able to hop into the fresh water showers before and after sweating it out in the saunas.

After a pamper, it was time to cook our foraged finds on a camp fire and enjoy a meal together before heading home.
